If you grew up cruising through Springfield in The Simpsons: Hit & Run or wreaking havoc in Prototype, you’ll want to sit down for this one. Radical Entertainment, the legendary studio behind those cult classics, has officially returned from the dead under a fresh new banner: New Radical Games. The studio’s shiny new website invites us on a nostalgic journey, reminding fans of their iconic work while signaling a new chapter for the team.
Fronted by Radical co-founder Ian Wilkinson as CEO and former Capcom Vancouver exec Tim Bennison as COO, New Radical Games is built on the combined legacy of Radical and Hothead Games, the latter founded by ex-Radical devs and shuttered just recently. This fusion means the studio is bursting with decades of experience, and they’re ready to take on full game development, co-development, ports, remasters, or even ventures into the metaverse and realtime VFX projects. Although no official new title has been announced yet, the potential for remasters of beloved games like Hit & Run and Prototype is tantalizingly on the table.
Looking back, Radical Entertainment was a powerhouse of licensed open-world action, crafting not only The Simpsons: Hit & Run but also Prototype, The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, Scarface: The World Is Yours, and several Crash Bandicoot titles. Given the cult status of these games, especially Hit & Run which remains a fan favorite more than 20 years after its release, the news that the original team could be behind possible remasters has sparked a lot of buzz. Yet, as much as the nostalgia excites us, the path to remastering Hit & Run is complicated; the rights sit in a corporate maze involving Disney and Epic Games, making a straightforward remake a tall order.
Still, New Radical’s focus on remastering classic games, enhancing visuals, audio, and gameplay for modern platforms, suggests they have the expertise and passion to revive these timeless titles. Their blog post from April 2025 hints at a studio eager to reignite the spirit of creativity and collaboration that once defined Radical Entertainment. Plus, whispers of Iron Galaxy’s involvement in a Prototype remaster further fuel speculation that New Radical might be at the helm of bringing these fan favorites back to life.
While we probably shouldn’t hold our breath for an immediate Hit & Run sequel or remake, New Radical Games’ rebirth is a hopeful sign that some of our cherished classics could see a new lease on life. For now, the studio is open for business and ready to tackle projects big and small, keeping that Radical spirit alive in an industry that’s always hungry for nostalgia served with a modern twist. You can check out what they’re about yourself on the New Radical website, a sleek portal that beautifully honors their past while looking forward.
So, whether you’re a fan longing to revisit the streets of Springfield or smash through Prototype’s chaotic world once again, keep an eye on New Radical Games. The radical ride might just be beginning anew.
